Thanks as always for providing us with great listening material.
Perhaps someone can "Shed Some Light" on this. I really just don't get this! I bought this album back in the "I'll buy anything with Vinnie on it" phase. First, the album cover has 3 guys with incredible farmer's tans and they are pointing to a bass drum with Vinnie's picture on it. It seems like that has "Crack Addicts" written all over it!
Then, the music... my gosh! What a cacophonous sounding album!
Perhaps someone can shed some light on this. My rant just comes from a lack of understanding of what they are trying to "ahem" accomplish. It must be some deep Jazz thing, but it just doesn't touch anything in me.
This is again, no personal afront to you Benrand, as I am quite thankful for your excellent contributions to this forum. In fact, as a matter of request, would you happen to have any choice cuts from Holdsworth's Secrets album? I can't find that anywhere, at a reasonable price!

I'm really glad you posted this Benrand. I found this album after much searching years ago and I've got to say it's got some of the crazier drumming by Vinnie on record.
However, it's easily the worst album I own and that's saying something being a recovering fusion fan. [img]wink.gif[/img]

This is supposedly a "post bop" album. If you've had the chance to read the liner notes, you'll understand the philosophy behind it: plus, this is another one of those Vinnie's reading music performances.
If you don't like this it's cause it went right over your head.

That Big Drum track is far too happy for me. Not a fan personally. Drum solo's very cool, but it's very Vinnie.
He does a pretty similar groove on this Andy Summers track, and i think here it works far better...

I'd always assumed it was old-school AWA a bit of a "tongue-in-cheek" recording [that's called the "benefit of the doubt" [img]wink.gif[/img] ]...just by listening to the disc...
